Trained medical personnel (doctors and nurses) attend to runners who are injured or experience unanticipated illness, according to their areas of expertise.

After initial treatment has been given, subsequent treatment must be sought at regular health care centres (primary care or emergency care). The medical personnel on site recommend appropriate follow-up care, primarily in the emergency care system in the Gothenburg area.

Information about rules and rights to medical care in cases of urgent illness can be found on the website below. Visitors from another country who become ill during a brief visit to Sweden always can obtain necessary or emergency care, though fees may be charged.

This bulletin only contains information that relates directly to the race. For other information, see the bulletins for Travel & Arena, Accommodation and Services.

ARENA

10MILA 2017 takes place east of Gothenburg. The Arena is located in the fields between Lexby and Kåhög in Partille. It is signposted from the E20 motorway.

INFORMATION & EVENT CENTRE

The Information & Event Centre at the Arena is open from 12.00 to 22.00 on Friday 28 April, and from 08.00 on Saturday 29 April until the event ends. Relay team bags can be collected from the Information & Event Centre.

RELAY TEAM BAGS

Relay team bags contain bibs, hired SI cards, a receipt for pre-booked meals, a team leader pass for access to the change-over area and a map ticket. Please note that it does not contain any bulletins for the race. Bulletins are posted on www.10mila.se and at the Arena.

Teams bags will not be issued to any clubs that have not paid all their fees for the race. Payment can be made with cash (Swedish kronor), most debit and credit cards and Swish.

TEAM DECLARATION

The line-up for relay teams in all classes must be declared by 21.00 on Friday 28 April via the Eventor online system. Note that SI card number registration is not required at this point. SI card numbers are registered at runner check-in before they start.

Line-ups can be changed after this date up to 1 hour before the start of the team’s race, provided there is a valid reason for the change. Changes to a team must be registered by filling in a form available at the Information & Event Centre. The reason must be submitted in writing to the organisers for approval or rejection.

Reserves

A reserve runner may substitute a team runner in the event of illness or injury during the race and the running order of the team can be changed. Any change must be reported to the Information & Event Centre as soon as possible and before the start of that lap.

PARTICIPATION IN MORE THAN ONE RACE

  • Girls who compete in the Youth Relay may compete in the Women’s Relay and the 10MILA Relay.

  • Boys who compete in the Youth Relay may compete in the 10MILA Relay.

  • Women who compete in the Women’s Relay may compete in the 10MILA Relay.

  • Runners are not allowed to compete more than once in the same relay.

Open courses may be run both before and after participation in the 10MILA relays. Please see the separate Bulletin for information on Open courses.

RUNNERS RELAY POOL

If you're looking for a team to join, or need runners to make up a team, visit This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You can also advertise for runners or a team during the race weekend on the information board at the Information & Event Centre.

TEAM LEADERS

Each team is allowed to have a team leader in the change-over pen/warm-up area during its relay. Show your team leader pass at the check-in point to enter this area. Team leaders should not stand in the running lane and map handover area and should keep out of the way of runners in the change-over area. Team leaders may not enter the start area.

START POSITIONS

Start numbers will be allocated to the first 100 teams in the Youth Relay and the first 150 teams in the Women’s Relay and the 10MILA Relay based on the results of 10MILA 2016. Vacant positions will be filled with new teams. All other teams will be given a start number when they enter, which means the earlier a team enters, the lower its start number.

BIBS

Bibs are self-adhesive. A runner’s bib must be fully visible for the entire race. The bar code on the bib must not be damaged when the runner enters the start and change-over area. Sponsor logos must be visible, so bibs must not be folded, covered or changed in any way. Runners are not allowed to start without a bib. If a bib is deliberately removed by a runner during the race, the team may be disqualified.

First lap check-in

Runners check in for start at the check-in point next to the change-over pens. Check-in opens about 60 minutes before the start. Runners must check in no later than 15 minutes before the start. Runners are responsible for clearing their SI cards before check-in.

At check-in, the SI card will be linked to the runner's name, lap and team number using the barcode on the bib. Any runners whose SI card is not linked to a team number will be removed from the race. After check-in, the runner may not leave the start and change-over area.

The distance from check-in to the start point is 300 metres. Runners will be able to enter the mass start area about 10 minutes before start. Once they have done so, they must not leave this area. Runners must be lined up behind their team’s start number at least (5) minutes before the start. Please follow the instructions given by the speaker.

NOTE! The route from start to the starting point is very narrow at the point where it crosses the tarmac road. Please take care!

Check-in for all other laps

Runners are responsible for clearing their SI cards before check-in. At check-in, the SI card will be linked to the runner's name, lap and team number using the barcode on the bib. Any runners whose SI card is not linked to a team number will be removed from the race.

Runners are advised to allow plenty of time to check in to make sure they are not late for their change-over. Runners may not leave the change-over area after they have entered it. Lap 2 and lap 3 runners in Youth Relay teams can check in earlier and then go to the change-over area later on. Runners are responsible for checking in before change-over.

Change-over area/Warm-up area

The warm-up area is marked out with fencing except where it crosses the road (Lexbydalsvägen) where it is marked with paint. Do not run along the road or cross the markings on the road.

Only team leaders (with permission) and change-over runners are allowed in the warm-up area. This applies to all laps.

There are pre-warning screens and toilets in the warm-up area. Runners waiting for their lap can follow the race on the screen.

TERRAIN DESCRIPTION

Terrain type

Wild terrain with lots of wooded marshes and swamps of different sizes. Areas of rock with vegetation where transition into marsh is generally indistinct. Mixed forest consisting mostly of pine with some spruce. There are very few roads and paths in the competition area. The area in which the Youth Relay will be run is close to the Arena where the terrain is more varied with streams, marshes and paths between areas of high ground.

Climb

Most of the competition terrain is characterised by moderate climb. However, there are some areas with very steep climbs and descents.

Runnability

Good to very good, except in marshy areas where it is often reduced. There are a few areas of thinned forest. These are shaded green on the map. The small trails closest to the Arena are used for horse-riding and some stretches may therefore be difficult to run on. In general, visibility is very good.

The fencing around the Arena has been removed where many runners are expected to pass. The posts are still in place. The fencing has been removed from the map at these points. The fencing can be crossed at other places but runners should do so with care.

There will be stationary and mobile cameras following the event. Temporary TV towers and masts are not marked on the map as they will be moved during the event. Cameramen out on the courses will be tracking and filming runners to provide live footage of the race.

MAP

Scale 1:10,000. 5 metre contour interval for all relay races. Offset print, 2017. New map of the western area, Kartsam, 2015-2016. The area in the east is an older map revised by Göteborgskartor in 2016.

Control descriptions are printed on the map. Code numbers are only shown on the control description and not next to the control rings.

Radio controls, manned controls and TV controls are not specifically shown on the control description.

OUT-OF-BOUNDS AREAS

Out-of-bounds areas are printed on the map. Areas of private property are out-of-bounds and are marked in olive green on the map. Some areas of private property are taped off to clearly show the boundary.

Runners who enter areas that are out-of-bounds will be disqualified.

CONTROLS

The controls are marked with orange/white flags. Reflective markers are used on the night controls. There are at least two SI control units at each control. There are no manual pin-punches at the controls. The control number is marked on each SI control unit. The control unit is about 60 cm off the ground.

Runners are advised to check the control numbers carefully especially where there are many controls close together.

Some control locations are manned by race officials, and some will be visited by media during the race. There will also be a VIP team out in the forest during the first part of the 10MILA race.

PUNCHING SYSTEM

The SportIdent (SI) system will be used. An SI card can only be used once in any of the relays. An SI card that is used in a relay can, however, be used once on the open courses. After the race, teams should collect all hired SI cards and return them to the Information & Event Centre when collecting their maps. SI cards that are lost or not returned will be charged at SEK 580 per card.

NOTE! ComCard Up, SI5 and SI8 cards must not be used on lap 10 of the 10MILA Relay. Runners using these cards on lap 10 will be disqualified as the cards have insufficient capacity for the number of controls on that lap.

CORRECT PUNCHING

It is the runner’s responsibility to make sure they punch the SI card correctly by waiting for the beep and flashing light from the control unit. If the unit does not emit a beep and light, the runner must use the other unit at that control.

OUT-OF-BOUNDS AREAS AT THE ARENA

Cordoned-off areas at the Arena are race areas and must not be entered. Entering these areas will result in disqualification of the team. This applies to runners, team leaders and spectators.

The warm-up areas next to the start and change-over areas, and the start area and change-over area are cordoned off. These may only be entered by runners and authorised team leaders.

Do not get in the way of runners leaving the change-over area.

GPS TRACKING

GPS tracking is used on all laps of the Women’s Relay and the 10MILA Relay.

The teams in the Women’s Relay and 10MILA Relay selected to wear GPS tracking devices are listed in the appendix to the Bulletin published on Eventor and posted at the entrance to the change-over pen at the Arena. Additional teams may be selected to wear GPS trackers for specific laps. These teams will be announced by the speaker and posted at the entrance to the change-over pen.

Runners in the selected teams must wear the tracking device. Any team refusing to do so will be immediately withdrawn from the race. Runners should collect the GPS device when checking in to the change-over pen no later than 20 minutes before start or expected change-over time. It must be worn, as instructed, inside the vest provided by the organisers. Officials will help runners to put the vest on.

When they have completed their lap, runners must hand the vest and GPS device over to officials at the exit of the change-over pen.

GPS - Youth Relay

GPS tracking is only used on the last lap of the Youth Relay. 15 teams will be selected in advance. These will be published on the Eventor online system and posted at the check-in point of the change-over pen.

WATER & SPORTS DRINKS

Water and sports drinks are available on laps 1 to 3 and 5 of the Women’s Relay, and on laps 1 to 4 and 7 to 10 of the 10MILA Relay. These stations are marked on the race map or on the control description. Water is also available to runners when their lap passes through the Arena. Team leaders will not be able to hand drinks to runners.

There may be other water stations in the forest not marked on the map. This are mainly intended for other laps.

CHANGE-OVER LANES

There are four lanes leading to the finish. The lanes will be used alternately.

Lane 1: Finish lane. This lane is only for the first runners on each lap and everyone on the final lap. This lane is furthest to the left in the direction of running.

Lanes 2-4: Change-over lanes Officials/signs indicate which lane to use. Because these lanes have a U-turn, runners are NOT ALLOWED TO CHANGE LANES. Anyone doing so will be disqualified.

Runners punch at the finish line. Anyone failing to punch at the finish line will be disqualified. After the runner has punched at the finish line, they hand their map to an official and then go to the map board to get the map for the next lap. The map for the lowest team number is furthest away on the board.

They hand this map to the next runner who is waiting at the handover rail. Runners are responsible for handing over the correct map. If a map is missing, a replacement map can be collected from the tent on the right (in the direction of running) between the map board and handover rail.

There are signs marked 100, 200 etc. at the handover rail so that outgoing runners know approximately where to wait. For the runner handing over the map, the lowest number is furthest to the right at the handover rail.

Youth Relay change-over laps 2 and 3

Team leaders should read this very carefully and explain to their runners how it works! A lot of teams were disqualified at last year’s race because of mistakes made at the change-over.

map

In the Youth Relay, both of the maps for the second lap and the third lap are on the map board. The extra map is folded inside the plastic sleeve of the map on the board. Extra maps not used by the team should be handed to an official at the exit of the change-over pen.

Change-over 1: Lap 1 runner enters the change-over area. At the map board there are two maps inside one plastic sleeve. The runner takes the maps and hands them to runners 2A and/or 2B who run out at the same time.

Change-over 2: The first runner on lap 2 enters the change-over area. At the map board there are two maps inside one plastic sleeve. The runner takes the maps and hands them to runners 3A and/or 3B who run out at the same time. The second runner on the lap does not take a map!

Change-over 3: The first runner on lap 3 comes to the map board and gives the map to runner 4.

The runner that punches first at finish on lap 2 and lap 3 is registered in the team's results. The first runner on each lap must have punched correctly otherwise the team will be disqualified, even if the second runner on the same lap has punched correctly.

PASSING THROUGH THE ARENA & MAP CHANGE

Runners on Lap 5 of the Women’s Relay, and laps 4 and 10 of the 10MILA Relay, change maps when they pass through the Arena.

  • The new map for Lap 5 of the Women's Relay is on a map board in start number order.

  • The new map for Lap 4 of the 10MILA Relay is in a box.

  • The new map for Lap 10 of the 10MILA Relay is on a map board in start number order.

FINISH

Incoming runners must run into the lane furthest to the left. Runners are not allowed to change lane. If runners enter the wrong lane, they must run back to the start of the lane and enter the correct one.

Close finishes will be decided by a finish line judge when necessary. The runner then punches the finish punch a few metres past the finish line.

Note that ONLY runners of the winning teams and some officials are allowed in the area between the finish line and the photo area. Leaders and other club members must wait for their teams until they have left the check-out area.

WILDLIFE

Any sightings of elk, deer, wild boar etc. should be reported at the Red Exit.

DISQUALIFIED/MISPUNCHED

A team will be notified at check-out if it has mispunched or is disqualified. It is then sent to the Red Exit where the reason is investigated. Mispunched or disqualified teams are posted on the results board as soon as possible after change-over. The team may continue to take part in the race but is ineligible for a placing. The team may be detained by officials at the map board for at least 30 minutes after the leading team left so that the team does not affect the results of the race.

Team leaders wishing to lodge a complaint must do so at the Information & Event Centre no more than one hour after the disqualified runner has crossed the finish line.

DID NOT FINISH

Runners who have not completed their lap or passed the finish line must go to the check-out area to download their SI card so that they can be accounted for and not designated as Lost.

MASS RESTART

Youth Relay Saturday 13.30.

Women's Relay Saturday 19.00.

10MILA Relay Sunday 09.00. The mass restart is in two parts with Lap 10 starting first.

Note: There are no shortened laps.

The change-over area closes 15 minutes before the times shown above.

Runners taking part in the mass restart must run the lap for which they are registered in the team entry. Mass restart teams are given a placing on the results list after all the other teams that have completed the race. Teams that did not finish or were disqualified may take part in the mass restart.

MAXIMUM TIME

The maximum time for mass restart teams in both the Youth and Women’s Relays is 3 hours. The maximum time for 10MILA teams is 4 hours.

MAP

Revised by Kartsam, 2011. Scale: 1:7,500 for ÖM7. 1:10,000 for other courses. 5 m contour intervals. Offset print 2017, except for ÖM7 and ÖM10 on Saturday which are digitally printed.

The network of paths has been updated and is clearly shown. In the terrain, this is marked with white tapes. On the map, it is shown with purple dashes.

CONTROLS

The controls are marked with orange/white flags. Reflective markers are used on the night controls.

TERRAIN DESCRIPTION

Terrain type: The area includes spruce forest and mixed woodland with some pure stands of oak. The forest stands are of varying ages. There are quite a lot of paths and tracks. Only a few marshes.

Climb: Gentle to very hilly terrain. Some sections with few distinguishing details and also hillsides with many features.

Runnability: Generally good to very good. However, there are some patches of denser forest, rocky terrain or thinned areas where runnability is reduced. Runnability is very reduced in some of the green area in the southernmost part of the competition terrain.

OUT-OF-BOUNDS AREAS

Out of consideration for wildlife and landowners, several areas are strictly out-of-bounds. These are only marked on the map.

On the way to the last control, runners on all the courses come to a barbed wire fence. This is marked with blue/yellow tapes. On the map it is marked with a thick purple line to indicate it cannot be crossed. There are two openings in the fence. These are marked on the map. Runners may only cross the fence at these openings.

TO START/FINISH

Start and finish are east of the Arena. Follow the orange/white tapes and reflective markers for about 600 metres.

The taped route to the start begins at the Open Course desk at the Arena.

RESULTS

The results will be continually updated on the screen at the Arena and on http://liveresultat.orientering.se/...., and afterwards online on Eventor.

The courses will be uploaded to Livelox (see link in Eventor).

COURSES

The courses for all classes (except ÖM1) are different on each day. So even if you run the same class on both Friday and Saturday, the courses will not be the same.

As well as the normal Open Courses, there is an ÖM10 gaffled/forked course, which offers mass-start training.

On Friday, all the courses (except ÖM1 and ÖM3) have night reflectors so it is possible to run these courses in the dark.
